As many of the users feel comfortable using windows – based server to host content on the internet. Consequently, we are going to install MySQL a free and open-source database server on Windows operating system.
1. Download :
The best way to install MySQL is by downloading an MSI Installer package of MySQL from the official site. The web-community version will only download the server, by default, but you can select other applications ( like Workbench ) as desired.
After opening MySQL official site, navigate to downloads tab and click on MySQL community ( GPL ) downloads.
In the MySQL Community Downloads page clink on MySQL Installer for Windows, this will lead us to a page where we need to click on download.
To continue with the download procedure, click on and save the file.
We have successfully downloaded MySQL for Windows, now it’s time to move on with the installation procedure.
2. Installation :
Run the installer that you saved on your system, generally by double-clicking.
Next, determine which setup type you would like to use for the installation:
Developer Default :
Provides a setup type that includes the selected version of MySQL Server and other MySQL tools related to MySQL development, such as MySQL Workbench.
Server Only :
Provides a setup for the selected version of MySQL Server without other products
This setup type will allow you to customize every part of the installation from the server version to whichever additional MySQL tools you select.
Complete the configuration process by following the on-screen instructions. Install the server instance and whichever additional products you selected.
Then begin the configuration process by selecting the availability level ( most users will use the default, standalone version ). One will make sure to install MySQL as a Service so that Windows can automatically start the service after a reboot or can restart the service if it fails. For additional, step-by-step instructions, see MySQL Server Configuration with MySQL Installer.
Start MySQL Server on Windows :
If you need to start the MySQL Server on Windows for the first time enter the following command in the Windows Command Prompt:
"C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 8.0\bin\mysqld" --console
The path in this command is the default installation folder. In case you have installed MySQL in a different folder, the command needs to reflect that to launch the mysqld executable file successfully.
--console option displays output directly on your console. Omitting this option sends the output directly to the MySQL logs
Stop MySQL Server on Windows :
To shut down MySQL Server in Windows, type the following command in the Windows Command Prompt:
"C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 8.0\bin\mysqladmin" -u root shutdown
The mysqladmin tool performs the
shutdown command and fully stops the MySQL server. The system does not provide output as confirmation.
