Today we are going to discuss what is “DNS Flag Day” and its causes and solutions.
What is happening?
Do you know there is a DNS Flag Day ahead this Year during February 1st, 2019. Be prepared as a major change is coming to the internet. Domains that have outdated Domain Name System settings will be in effect and that outdated servers will no longer load for customers of major ISP’s. Upgrades to DNS have come way back in 90’s i.e 20 Years ago. Since then after the update of DNS standards yet there are providers using outdated DNS Servers.
To preserve future sustainability of the system, a number of DNS software and service providers have announced that they will cease accommodations and remediate the non-compliant systems by implementing DNS resolver workarounds to accommodate DNS authoritative systems that don’t follow the Extensions to DNS (EDNS) protocol. This change will make most DNS operations slightly more efficient, and also allow operators to deploy new functionality, including new mechanisms to protect against DDoS attacks.
Here is the list of some providers who support this cause.

What should i do to protect my domain from DNS Flag Day?
You can check your website using tools like dnsflagday.net and ISC. You will end up with different results that will help you sort out the problem accordingly. The reason why this happen is due to firewalls blocking EDNS traffic. And another good reason is due to older DNS servers that need to upgrade to become EDNS-compliant.
You can find results something like in below images

So hurry up! Just upgrade your DNS before its being too late.
So in short to correct it you have to look into whether your DNS software is broken or you have wrong firewall configuration . Now what you all have to do is if you host your own DNS as a provider then just update it to the latest DNS software version in addition with correct firewall configuration and if you host with your hoster just ask them is their DNS EDNS-compliant or not.
And small note for our beloved customers. Our DNS servers are EDNS-compliant so no need to worry. And those who are new to our hosting you can checkout out our plans at IND Hosting. If we miss anything you can just post a comment in the section below. We will be glad to update it.
